Question : NIC dropping connection every 4 hours, 16 minutes and 01 seconds...why?

I have a very interesting phenomenon happening with my network connection. Every 4 hours, 16 minutes and 01 seconds, my NIC card loses connection for about 1 second. I can see the following for today in my event log:

Type: Information Time 2:11:18am Source: TCPIP Event: 4201
Description: The system detected that the network adapter 3Com Gigabit LOM (3c940) was connected to the network, and has initiated normal operations over the network adapter.

I have the same event at the following times as well:
6:27:19 am
10:43:21 am
2:59:23 pm

Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this, or what steps to take to try to figure it out? I have a LAN here at the house, all computers are directly connected (wired) to a Linksys BEFSR41 Router, which has a cable modem on the WAN port. I am running Windows 2000 Professional. I have one machine on the network running Windows 98

thanks

Answer : NIC dropping connection every 4 hours, 16 minutes and 01 seconds...why?

You need to know how the port is set on the switch side.  It should be set to 100 Full and your NIC should be set to 100 Full to gain maximum throughput.  If you only know how to set the windows side, then do that.  One negotiating is better than both, but find out how to get your switch changed.
