Question : Windows XP Clients resolve Intranet IP, but get Page Cannot Be displayed
|
|
I have windows XP clients running on a win2k DC. The DC has DNS running with Dynamic Updates and forwarders enabled.
I have specific Domain names that I can not get to by typing the DNS name, but when I type in just the IP address, the page will display fine.
All the sites that this happens to are intranet sites running over a wan. The sites that are geographicly closer work just fine.
The problem is when I type the DNS Name for example aaa-aaaa-aaa, the client will resolve the DNS name to the IP address, but will not show the page, I will get "page can not be displayed". The kicker is when I type in the IP address in IE, the page will show up fine!
We are running a proxy, IE is set up to bypass local address, and this page falls within that range.
I can type ping "(dnsname)" and it will return the IP address, just wont display the page.

if you have bypass proxy ticked and its still not working then it usually the proxy (or a firewall) though if your on ISA its the same product, speak to the proxy admin
