Question : SBS 2003 server displays "Duplicate Name Exists" at logon prompt even disconnected from switch
SBS Server comes up with the error "Duplicate Name Exists" at logon prompt which stops it from pinging anything or allowing any access on 80% of reboots. The other 20% of the time it does everything its suppose to do (while still getting that error at Logon) but the LAN is very sluggish. I have checked for duplicate CNames and there are none, and I have unplugged the server and rebooted with no LAN connection and I receive this error. It is a new DC/File Server (only one) but it was configured on a different LAN (test bed) so the IP address was changed from 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.0.4. The DHCP Server was also moved from the Linksys Router to this Domain Controller. Is it possible that the DNS, or WINS has the CName associated with both IP addresses?
Answer : SBS 2003 server displays "Duplicate Name Exists" at logon prompt even disconnected from switch
WINS had an address hidden in the WINS server options from the original setup which was assigned to the same "Server Name"
Went into the DHCP/Server Options and unchecked "WINS" as an option which cleared out the address and fixed the problem
