Question : Trash folder?
|
|
I was just checking up on space use for the sys volume of our file server (NSBS 6.5.4) and noticed a folder named sys:\administrative\trash. There are just over 60,000 files in there, apparently between 1-2 year old. They all have numeric file extensions and are predominantly less than 16kb. Can anyone tell me what this folder might be - if it's a system folder - and where these files might have come from (and of course whether it's safe to delete them)?

It is NOT a "system" directory. That is, there's nothing in a *stock* NetWare environment that creates/uses such a directory.
Is it safe to delete the contents? Dunno. Who put them there any why?
Given that there's 60K files in it, and SALVAGE would be a major pain, try renaming the directory and seeing what breaks and/or who screams. A simple rename won't destroy any filesystem Trustee rights, but it will break drive mappings and automated/scripted processes that rely on the name.
Give it awhile (15 days? 30 days?), and if no one shows up at your door pale-faced and sweating, make a backup copy and delete the directory.
