Question : XP clients not updating PTR records in DNS
I have a server 2003 domain with a number of Win XP and Server 2003 client machines. All XP clients are using DHCP, and all server clients have static IP addresses. The static IP clients all have properly updated A and PTR records in DNS, while the XP clients have updated A records but no PTR records at all.
DHCP and DNS services are both provided by the same server (which is also a domain controller). DHCP is set to:
Enable DNS dynamic updates (always dynamically update DNS A and PTR records)
Discard A and PTR records when lease is deleted
Dynamically update DNS A and PTR records for DHCP clients that do not request updates
Can anyone point me in the right direction to getting the PTR records updated for the DHCP clients? Thanks in advance.
Answer : XP clients not updating PTR records in DNS
The issue has been resolved (or at least worked around). I set the reverse lookup zone to accept secure and nonsecure dynamic updates and that seems to have resolved the issue.
