Answer : Password protect shares in xp pro?

You can't password protect a folder in xp (unless you compress it) without 3rd party software. The security used in xp is ntfs permissions, not passwords.

Why do you want a password? If you set up the permissions correctly, then only the appropriate people will be able to gain access to your files.....everyone else will get an access denied error.

Using the ntfs permissions is MUCH, MUCH more secure than setting a password....passwords are much easier to break than ntfs permissions are. If you insist on password protecting the folder and don't want to compress it then do a google search to get a 3rd party tool.
