Question : BT wireless internet via Apple Airport to XP: one works; one doesn't

I set up a wireless network using Apple Airport G with iBook (OSX10.3 Panther) and DLink DSL-300G+ ADSL modem connected to BT broadband.  Two XP laptops in the house have Edimax EW7105 PCMCIA wireless cards.  The network is just to share the internet connection.  Two problems.  One is that the connection occasionally drops and everything has to be rebooted, but we can live with that.  The second problem is that one XP machine picks up the internet connection fine, while the other one, having worked initially, now doesn't.  The settings on the two machines are identical.  The failing machine can see the network, but doesn't connect to the internet.  The same machine, when taken to another house with a wireless network picked it up straightaway.  Any suggestions?

Answer : BT wireless internet via Apple Airport to XP: one works; one doesn't

In my experience, wireless is real flaky. To connect you must have good signal, the correct ssid, matching WEP keys, be set for infrastructure mode, and be on the same channel. Some things to check are:
Disable the integrated firewall on the wifi nic - advanced properties of the network connection.
Try the wifi utility that came with the card to configure the connection instead of the Windows interface.
Make sure you don't have your nics bridged.
Plug into the router with a cable to eliminate/verify the wifi aspect is really the problem.
Put the nic from the one that doesn't work into the one that does.
Good luck
