Question : Open files locked by users in Novell

Sometimes I will have a user who is unable to save t  a file due to it being locked by another user who has it opened and left it open without realizing it needed to be closed so other user can modify it. My question, is there an easy way to check in Novell to see what user has the document open?

Answer : Open files locked by users in Novell

Is this a Microsoft Office document?

If so,

1) What version/SP of NetWare (Novell is a company - they sell more than one OS) are you using?
2) What version/SP of the Novell client32 are you using, or are you using the crapware(tm) client that ships with Windows?

The reason for my questions: 1) there may be a way to tell without spending money on any cool utilities (whohasit is another one you can buy) depending on what version of NetWare you have. 2) there may be a way to avoid this issue altogether, depending on both the NetWare client version (if you're using it) and the NetWare version.

If you've got a version of NetWare that has NoRM (Novell Remote Manager) you can drill down through the volume to the file and click the question mark, which will show who has it open, for example.
