Question : Unable to access file shares on a Windows 2003 Server running Active Directory from MAC OSx

Just finished replacing a Windows 2000 server with a new server running Windows Server 2003.  Up until this point, our handful of MAC users have been happily accessing files on the 2000 Server ok.  Since moving the files onto the 2003 server, however, which is also using a brand new and functioning Active Directory domain setup, the MAC's are unable to access the file shares.

I have a MAC mini, running OSx 10.something, that I'm using from here to troubleshoot, but so far haven't got it working.  I went into Directory Access on the MAC to bind it to the domain, and when I reboot and sign on, I'm able to use my domain username and password, which is different altogether from the one I have setup on the MAC itself,  to sign onto the MAC successfully.  However, when I try 'Connect to Server', or other ways where you see the computers around the MAC and try to access one of the servers on the Domain, which incidentally includes a 2000 server and the 2003 servers, it always comes up with that error about 'the object is not found'.  I am able, however, to access file shares on a standalone, 2000 workgroup server that is not participating in the domain, which is essentially how the old server was configured that I recently replaced.

Can anyone walk me through the steps and configuration pieces to check, on both the 2003 server and the MAC, to make it able to connect to these A.D. servers?  I tried adding 'File Serving for Macintosh' on the 2003 server, but then I wasn't able to start the Windows ftp server, getting an error that it was unable to bind to the adapter for that port....I don't know much about that 'File Serving for Macintosh' service, but I inferred that it was somehow using port 21.  Do I need that service installed for a MAC to access the regular file shares on the server that the pc workstations are accessing?  If not, what am I missing here?

Thanks in advance for any tips you can offer....lots of points to spread around here, as I'm sure there is more than 1 thing to consider, so please offer any wisdom you have!

Answer : Unable to access file shares on a Windows 2003 Server running Active Directory from MAC OSx

SFM need to be installed in order for the mac to see the mac shares that are set up in the file share portion of computer management.
This only applies to the macs that cannot use smb (9.x & below)

You are using 10

10 is able to use smb so you don't need SFM installed.

See if you can get a username/password combination to work after go/connect to server.
Try to put in one for the domain admin, your account, a test account anything.
If it still doesn't work, check the permissions on the folder you are trying to access to make sure you are using an account with the correct permissions.
