Question : VPN Into 4.1 server
|
|
Trying to VPN into novell 4.1 server.
have latest service packs latest 4.83 client latest IE ( not that that`s a good thing)
when dialing in from my win2000 pc at home I Get the following error
one or more network protocols did not connect correctly
tcp/ip connected successfully
IPX/SPX or compatible CP reported error 733. your computer and the remote computer could not agree on ppp control protocols.
please accept to use connection or hang up to disconnect
Now i can see the tcp/ip connected worked because I can ping the other pc`s on the networks and also goto them by browsing \\192.168.1.15 ect. and i see their shared folders.
I can ping the Novell server but how do I get into it?. Is this Error the issue ? when it says computers couldn`t agree does that mean my 2000 home workstation and my Instagate router at the shop? Who`s fightin Who here?
After some research I discovered alot of people saying to goto the settings of the connection and uncheck
I can ping the server but can`t browse to it or for that matter I would think it would bring up my novell login screen.
If it is the error is there a way i could tell which side has the problem?

Answer : VPN Into 4.1 server

If you have an absolute, concrete business reason to stay at NetWare 4.11 on this server, then you could also consider using a NW5.x migration server. You'd be able to authenticate to the NW5 box and have it do the IPX access to the NW4.11 box for you.
I must agree with DSPoole, though, that your best option would be to upgrade to NW6.x. Not only is file and print access web-enabled, but you have no limit on the number of NW6 servers you deploy - after the upgrade, all you pay for is any additional user-object licensing you may need (and, of course, any additional apps you install...)
