Question : Can NOT remote into, nor ping, an XP PC on LAN...
|
|
I've got a client on a LAN running Win XP PRO, as they all are (20 machines on the network, all presumably configured the same). I cannot access this single PC via Remote Desktop, nor can I ping to it. BUT, it does browse the Internet via the server/gateway.
"ICF", on the local machine, is turned off. "Allow another user to remote into this computer," is turned on. There is no hardware firewall between this PC and the rest of the Network (also, no additional firewall clients). Every other PC on the LAN can see the problem PC in their "Network Neighborhood". The problem PC CAN see the rest of the machines in its "Network Neighborhood". This PC CAN browse the Internet.
This is a mystery... There's the facts. Any clues?
I'd like to spend the Fourth NOT thinking about it.

I had a similar problem on a NT machine in January, can't upgrade as old client installed application software only works on NT. The NT machine could ping network, the rest of the network could not see it... I resolved the issue by re-installing the network component of NT, as I presume that something along the way became corrupted on the NT machine.
Hope that helps ya.
Denis.
