Question : Windows cannot locate a copy of your roaming profile
|
|
We have a Windows 2000 Server and about 30 XP workstations. We have set this up as a simple domain. The users log on to the server under their own name.
On any computer, regularly you recieve the error 'Windows cannot locate a copy of you roaming profile'. Now this appears to happen completely at random. All users can get this message at any time, and on any machine. Usually if you log off, wait a few seconds and try again it works, but again not always. This also happens when nobody else is using the network so I don't think it can be due to network traffic.
Any help on this message would be greatly appreciated.

The most common cause of this error I've found, tends to be access rights. The user of the profile needs full and complete access to that folder.
If it works some times I wouldn't have thought that was the issue, but is worth double checking.
Another thing is that XP needs a few seconds to talk to the Net before logging on, which might explain why the log off and log on is working. See article below.
