Question : Linksys Router setup with a different gateway

Hey Fellow Techies,

I did this once before but i cant recollect how i did it.

Here is the scoop

Our Network
(Firewall) Gateway  192.168.111.1
DHCP Server w2K3  192.168.111.21

I had a Linksys WRT54GX V.2 Router Configured to work in the network with IP 192.168.111.2
Its not working anymore ( after i moved to a different port, well i tried brining it back to the same port still doesnt work)

When I assign the static IP on one of the machines where wireless should be connected, I cant ping to 192.168.111.21 or 192.168.111.1  but i can ping to 192.168.111.2

Pls Any suggestions, thoughts and input will be greatly appreciated.

I already did the powercycle, firmware upgrade.

PS: I think its the setting.

Answer : Linksys Router setup with a different gateway

If the router has a wan and lan ports, connect it to the network using a lan port. Then, since you have reset it, it should have the factory default IP. check the manual for what that is, , set your PC (not connected via wireless, but via lan) to have the next ip, like if the router has 192.168.0.254, then set your ip to 192.168.0.253, mask 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.0.254

Now open a browser and enter the ip of the router. login using the credentials out of the manual. Disable the router's dhcp server and set it to a fixed ip of 192.168.111.2 using the options you have in that browser. Now test the router with a wireless connection. If that works setup the necessary security functions you need for that router (MAC Address filtering, WPA or whatever you need, SSID not sending etc.).
