Question : WINS, do I use or not?
Hello Experts
I would like to know if I should add WINS service back into my network or not. The environment is all Windows 2003 servers and Windows XP clients. I removed WINS about a month ago because I believe that DNS takes the place of this service. Ever since I have done this, the network client PC's take between 2 - 6 minutes to boot up. I have even had instances where the PC took 10 - 12 minutes to get to a usable Desktop. I am conteplating reinstalling WINS again.
Your advice, thoughts, and help are greatly appreciated.
Answer : WINS, do I use or not?
That is most likely your problem. DHCP can pass down your DNS servers addresses. Also with DHCP client disabled, you might not easily get a DHCP address.
