Question : How to add reverse DNS entry for a second email STMP server and second ip?

We have the our MX record pointing to our email host with a first ip.  However we also have a SMTP server at our local office sending out reports to our defined set of clients.  One of the clients email system does a reverse DNS check and blocks our emails.  Is it possible to add a second IP and entry to legitimize our second SMTP server?  Or should I just have that client add us onto their safe list?

Hi,

Of course it's possible to add a second MX record for the same SMTP suffix but associated to a second DNS CNAME representing your second SMTP server.

But doing that, your second SMTP server will receive incoming e-mails. If your MX records point to several SMTP servers then all these servers will receive incoming mails. DNS mechanisms will do a sort of load balancing on these 2 MX records.

If you don't want second SMTP server to receive incoming emails then MX records is probably not a good solution.

Have a good day.
