Question : Does XML Sockets work on GPRS?

Hi,

I am importing a desktop-based web application over to the mobile phone, and apparently, the XML socket fails to work.

I am using an O2 xphone smartphone (Windows mobile). Do I need to recofigure the ports or something like that??

Is it that smartphones restrict the use of certain ports? Where can I get a list of ports? Where can I configure the ports? Which port should I use?

Thanks!!

Answer : Does XML Sockets work on GPRS?

GPRS is just another connection method for IP networks. This means that you can restrict ports on the way in using routers and firewalls, but by default nothing is blocked.

I suggest you check with your GSM service provider to ensure your ports are not firewalled. If you can connect on another port to the machine it means your GPRS connection is working OK and the problem can only be a local personal firewall setting (or a setting on the smartphone), a local routing setup problem or a firewalling policy at your service provider.

It thus should be no problem to do what you want.
