Question : Wireless Signal Booster
|
|
Hi,
I live in Austin where the city and a couple of non-profit groups have set up free wireless connectivity in the public parks. The idea is to eventually spread the availability thruout the city. http://www.austinchronicle.com/issues/dispatch/2004-06-11/screens_feature.html Here's the problem: My house is at the back of one of these parks and I can pick the signal up, so this is great while I'm sitting in my backyard. However, the best I can get is either Low or very low signal strenght which tends to be slow. Is there any signal booster equipment that I can buy to amplify the signal, without having to be plugged directly into the router. I'm using a laptop with a Belkin 54mbps wireless card.
Thanks.

Answer : Wireless Signal Booster

I've found the wireless USB network cards (Model WUSB11) with little antenna from Linksys work better than the cards. Not sure if you have a brand preferance, but I think the external are going to work better because of antenna size. Position could be a factor so, putting the card higher may improve signal strength.
Mark.
