Question : trouble shoot MAC address

I was wondering if I can ping a MAC address from a NIC. I want to test the functionality of the NIC, is there a way to get some sort of response from a MAC address?

Not really.  You can find out what the MAC is by typing ipconfig /all at the command prompt.  But there is no diagnostic tool like the modem diag that will query a card by its MAC and trouble shoot MAC addressing problems.  The MAC really is just like a serial number.  ( a little more but not much ).  So there isnt too much to trouble shoot.  It is used in the send/receive of data but doesnt really do the send/receive itself.
