Question : Can not get peer to peer network to work

I can not get peer to peer networking to work. Whenever I goto start->run->\\computername it says "no network provider accepted the given network path" or when I do run->\\localcomputer it says "an extended error has occured"
I have installed Netbeui, IPX, TCP/IP protocols and I keep getting the same errors, I had the network working before but I think one of  my programs changed the configuration
