Question : why can i not connect xp sp2 pc to domain?

I have a pc running xp sp2. It can ping the server but the server (WINDOWS 2000 SERVER) cannot ping this machine. This server is the domain controller and has dhcp and dns running.
I want this pc to join the domain.

However i keep getting the following message.

Note: This information is intended for a network administrator.  If you are not your network's administrator, notify the administrator that you received this information, which has been recorded in the file C:\WINDOWS\debug\dcdiag.txt.

The domain name dummyserver might be a NetBIOS domain name.  If this is the case, verify that the domain name is properly registered with WINS.

If you are certain that the name is not a NetBIOS domain name, then the following information can help you troubleshoot your DNS configuration.

An error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain dummyserver.

The error was: "No DNS servers configured for local system."
(error code 0x0000267C DNS_ERROR_NO_DNS_SERVERS)

The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.dummyserver

Answer : why can i not connect xp sp2 pc to domain?

Sounds more like a DHCP problem...where the client doesn't didn't get the DNS servers.  As you are probably aware... DNS is required for Active Directory
