Question : Poor speed on Wireless Router
|
|
Hi,
I have the following wireless router.... http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/thumb/f/f3/200px-Belkin_wireless_router.jpg
The router works fine, however when i take my laptop down stairs the speed of the internet and network is ultra slow! I have quite a small house and i can remember when i lived with my mum i had the same router and my laptop was further away but the speed was fast. The distance from the wireless router to where i want to use my laptop is not far..... i would say about 10-12 yards (although the router is upstairs and i want to use my laptop down stairs) what could be causing the slow speeds?
Cheers

Most likely there is some interference...there could be another wireless AP or router on the same channel as yours in the area. You might try downloading Netstumbler at http://www.netstumbler.com/downloads/ . It will show you all the wireless in your area. See if there are any on the same channel as you. If so, go tell them to change their channel,, ha, actually you will need to change your channel, for example if your router is set to channel 6 and there is another on channel 6 then set yours to 1 or 11 etc.... See if that helps. Other things you might try are aiming your antennas down instead of up.
