Question : DHCP fault tolerance

I would like to know if I can point the DHCP database path to be stored in a different storage media, in case there is a DHCP server that goes down, I can restore from the storage media.

thanks

Answer : DHCP fault tolerance

Hello Jskfan,

If I'm correct, you're trying to setup backup for your DHCP database and you want it to run periodically and simply restore from media if you have a DHCP failure.

Here is an article that describes how this can be achieved.
http://computerperformance.co.uk/w2k3/services/DHCP_Database_Backup.htm

This is especially a good option if you lack the hardware to support Clustering of your server as suggested by Benlai_cn.

Furthermore, another option is to setup another DHCP server on the network but with a scope that excludes the original DHCP scope. This type of setup is called 80/20 rule. It creates the best fault tolerance for your DHCP service.
This article from Microsoft describes how this can be achieved: http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsServer/en/Library/5df3d4e9-e846-413a-bd9a-99645ac580991033.mspx

Hope this helps.
