Question : Telenet Problem Port 23 to Mail Servers (Yahoo/Hotmail) - Win XP Home - Can Telnet to Others (i.e., 216.86.77.194)

Hi,

I'm getting a connection failed on Port 23 when I try to telnet to mail servers such as yahoo and hotmail.
I can successfull telnet to 216.86.77.194 - this was suggested in other question to see if the problem was all telnets - which in this case it is not.

I called microsoft - talked to 3 people - and no luck there!

Any help will be appreciated.

Ok, the most extreme measure is to use a sniffer like ethereal to see if packets leave the machine or not, so we can exclude a network problem.

Before doing so, I just saw on google that there's a known "bug" (feature) with mcafee blocking port 25. While this should not apply, since we're on a client and the problem seems to be just in inbound connections, I still suspect a Firewall issue. You should check if mcafee is still running,and maybe - if you can- try to remove for a little while.
We're excluding an ISP issue since the other machine is ok.
