Question : Error Joining a computer to a domain, after it was a part of the Domain

I had a computter that was a part of a domain. The machine is a Windows 2000 Professional w/ Service pack 3.   I attempted to change the name of the computer but was unsuccessful.   I swithced the computer to a workgroup and was able to change the name.  Upon trying to join the computer back into the domain, I received the following error.  "can not find the file Specified."  The error box provided no name for a file.  Below is a snapsjot of some of the event errors in event viewer.   before you ask, my account has access to add/remove computers from the domain, and to change computer names :).

Answer : Error Joining a computer to a domain, after it was a part of the Domain

For EventID 5788.
Error "The System Cannot Find the File Specified" - it usually means that the computer account does not have permission to read the object for its computer account. This behavior can occur if the DNS domain name for the computer does not match the Active Directory domain name.
See: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3ben-us%3b257734

For EventID 5789.
According to Microsoft "This behavior can occur if the DNS domain name for the computer does not match the Active Directory domain name. Specifically, the Change primary DNS suffix when domain membership changes check box has been cleared, and contains a DNS domain different from the Active Directory domain of which the computer is a member. To view this check box, right-click My Computer, click Properties, and then click the Network Identification tab."
