Question : wireless bridge
|

Hi,
I have a linksys befw11s4 (wireless B) in a main office and need to create a wireless "bridge" to our garage in back of the office. It's about 250 feet away. The wirless card on the desktop computer in the garage is on the floor and doesn't get very good reception with the signal from the befw11s4. I would like to set up another wireless linksys befw11s4 within line of sight of the original befw11s4 and then hard wire a network cable from the befw11s4 to the desktop computer.
The Question: Can I set up another befw11s4 in the garage and use it as the other end of a wireless B bridge? I'm having trouble figuring out how to do this.
Thanks

cshorey,
Yes, there are straight wireless bridges (also referred to as Access Points). A variety of manufacturers make them, but they are often less widely available than the SOHO equipment .
It is very possible that using an external, directional antenna (mounted physically outside, see Hawking Technology's www site) at both ends may resolve the problem completely. It is possible on a unit with two antenna connectors to use the original manufacturer supplied mini-stick antenna on one connector, and an external antenna on the other. I have used this quite sucessfully where I needed to have both connections close by, and coverage 1000 feet away in a different building.
