Question : IP tools capture packets for other LAN nodes
|
|
Good Day Experts!
I have been using IP tools to capture packets in and out of my computer. I just noticed when capturing packets that i can see all the packets coming in and out from another LAN machine on my network in this case "192.168.7.72" My machine is "192.168.7.2". The LAN is behind a router and switch. The other LAN computer is listening to radio broadcasts from the BBC but i can see all the packets to and from this conncetion from my computer. Why are packets that are meant for other LAN computer seem to be bouncing off my NIC?
I should have no network traffic really as i am doing nothing on WAN or LAN (except EE) but i have a steady steam of constant 5000 packets that are not even coming to my computer.
A pic of some of what IP tools is reporting to me. (This is from the 192.168.7.2 machine) http://www.restricted.plus.com/Iptools1.jpg

Answer : IP tools capture packets for other LAN nodes

You said you're "...behind a router and switch..."
Did you by any chance mean a router and a hub?
This behavior is exactly what you would see if you were using a hub to connect multiple PC's.
