Question : Can't connect to FTP server (of private IP via ADSL router) from a client with private IP remotely.

Good day. I am having difficulty in connecting to my home's FTP server from my office using Cuteftp. Here's the scenario:

My FTP server (IP: 10.0.0.5) at home is connected to an ADSL router which will forward port 21000 (customized FTP port) to the FTP server. I can connect to the FTP server using another PC under the same network. When I attempt to connect it using Cuteftp from my office remotely (I know my ADSL router's dynamic IP address), the following error message appears:

ERROR:>      Failed to establish data socket

If I turn off passive mode, the following error occurs:

426 Data connection closed, transfer aborted.

The PC in my office has its own private IP and gateway to connect to the Internet. I can connect to other public ftp server such as ftp.cuteftp.com. So, I believe it's not my office's firewall issue.

I tried to search online for a solution but no luck. Is it due to the fact that I am using a private IP to connect to another private IP? Any solution?

Thanks and hope to hear from you.

21000 is a very high port....  are you sure your companies firewall is not blocking the port>??  Try to telnet to that port from the office and let me know if you get a response from your server.  It seems like something is stopping the transmission.  Then you would almost have to try from another remote location to insure that your firewall/router is configured correctly..  Do you have another location you can check>?
