Question : NetGear Setup to Allow PCAnywhere Connection
|
|
I am using NetGear RP614v2 Cable/DSL Web Safe Router. I want to be able to set it up so I can access my home computer remotely using PCAnywhere 10.5. I am using Road Runner Cable for my Internet connect and it has a dynamic IP. I am knowledgeable in setting up the PC Anywhere. Can somebody help me with this set-up? I am using Windows XP Pro on my PC.

Answer : NetGear Setup to Allow PCAnywhere Connection

Unfortunately, PCAnywhere can use different ports depending on the version being used. These details are taken straight from the Symantec website:
pcAnywhere 9.2, 10.x, and 11.0 use ports 5631 and 5632 only. pcANYWHERE32 8.0 and pcAnywhere 9.0 use ports 5631 and 5632, but it will fall back to 22 and 65301 if no hosts are found on 5631 or 5632. pcANYWHERE32 7.5 uses ports 5631 and 5632. pcANYWHERE32 7.0 uses ports 22 and 65301. A download file can change port usage to 5631 and 5632. pcANYWHERE 2.0 uses ports 22 and 65301. With version 2.03 and higher, a download file can change port usage to 5631 and 5632.
Therefore depending on the version you are using, you will need to forward the appropriate ports.
You also need to ensure that there are no issues with the XP firewall, or any firewall associated with any anti-virus software that you may be running.
