Question : VPN passthru help - WGT624

Hey all,
I'm kind of new at setting up more advanced configurations, so be kind in your answers..
I have been trying for some time now to establish a connection from my laptop, while out and about, unsuccessfully at that.
My main desktop at home is behind a netgear wgt624.
My desktop is running XP Pro, all firewalls off (at least until I get this working).
This is what I did, I went to the add new connection wizard, setup the VPN, receive connections, I'm pretty sure that the software is pretty right on.
As for the router, I upgraded all firmware, I don't see an option to enable VPN pass thru, etc.. So I was trying to forward ports (port forwarding).
I have PPTP, using TCP & UDP on port 1723~1723, going to my desktop IP.
Also, I am forwarding port 500 to it (TCP & UDP).
Also, I am forwarding port 47, (TCP & UDP).
Is this correct?
I don't really know too much about this end of computing, and I have been reading and trying to figure this out by others' settings.
Thanks for any help.
Also, my provider is road runner, NYC.
Paul

You have confirmed that the problem is with the router at least. The first thing I would do is to see if there is a later version of the router firmware available which you can upgrade to.
If that does not work the only choice is to get another router i'm afraid. If you do this you might want to consider a router which acts as a vpn server itself such as this one http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=34&scid=29&prid=433
