Question : Rj11 and RJ45 from same Cat 5 cable
I have an existing CAT5 cable that I need to run phone and data off it. I know I can use differnet pairs on the CAT5 for phone or data, but both at same time? Is there a jack that anyone makes to provide a RJ11 and Rj45 off the same cable?

It can be done, but it is not recommended. The phone line will be carrying 48volts of electricity and this violates all CAT5 standards and, depending on the length of the cable run, will prevent the data link from working. It would only work for very short distances - perhaps 10feet or less. You can get splitters that might work. They were designed to have 2 data lines, not data and phone. http://www.homestead.co.uk/productcategorydetail.aspx?CategoryID=51338&onspecialoffer=False http://www.duxcw.com/digest/Reviews/Network/ats/index.html
