Question : HP Procurve vs Cisco Catalyst

Excuse me for such a broad question, but we currently have 4 48 port HP Procurve 10/100/1000 w/ gbic fiber switches. What would be the benefit of upgrading to Cisco? We are currently in the process of installing 4 Cisco 2821's (Load Balancers) & 1 PIX firewall. Everyone is saying that we need to sell our Procurves (which work perfect) and upgrade to Cisco. Can anyone give me a good reason why this would be beneficial? My Procurves cost about $700 a piece and the Cisco switches are running around $3500 for their 48-ports.

Answer : HP Procurve vs Cisco Catalyst

Wow, did someone get up on the wrong side of the bed this morning?  Or am I overly interpreting the comment?  But if the interpretation is to state the justification of needs to phase out (or just plain dump) one brand of equipment for another, then its a valid point to make.  "Why are you doing this?"

Do you have a requirement that the HP products cannot fullfill or is there an interest to make the site a Cisco shop?

While I highly favor Cisco and have no issues leaning a site towards their equipment, I would only lean them towards that if it made technological, structural and financial sense.  From the looks of thing; at least bandwidth wise, you have devices that can support present day computer systems.

I suppose that a decent analogy would be switching from wearing a London Fog 3 piece suit to wearing a 3 piece Armani suit, both are functionally acceptible in a business environment, but the Armani may be more of a 'power suit' for sales people....
