Question : Need app to block ads and pop-ups that runs from server

I am trying to avoid installing a pop-up/ad-killing app on every single workstation and am looking for software that can be installed once on the server and be effective across the LAN in our school.

I hope this query makes sense, as I am not the net admin, just a teacher trying to help track down this app so the net admin can install it.

Thanks.

Answer : Need app to block ads and pop-ups that runs from server

I'm wonder what happend to Junkbuster.  You said you weren't sure of a couple of things.  1st was its ability to stop popup/under ads.  Quoting from their FAQ:

"It blocks requests for URLs (typically banner ads) that match its blockfile. It also deletes unauthorized cookies and other unwanted identifying header information that is exchanged between web servers and browsers. These headers are not normally accessible to users (even though they may contain information that's important to your privacy), but with the Internet Junkbuster you can see almost anything you want and control everything you're likely to need. You decide what's junk. SM Many people publish their blockfiles to help others get started. Guidescope maintains a proprietary central database available to users of its service. "

My question is, what doesn't that do for you??

Your other doubt seemed to be that you weren't sure it ran on a server.

Looking at http://www.junkbusters.com/ht/en/ijbwin.html it sure looks to me as though it can be installed as a service on a Windows NT box and provide proxy service on Port 8000.

Just curious why you seem to discard this as it seems to fill the needs of your initial request.

Harry

The other question you had was if it would run on a server"
