Question : Networking problem: XP Pro connecting to XP Home
|
|
2 computers- XP Pro and XP Home (computer names are PROPC and HOMEPC) They are on the same workgroup and draw IP's from the same router. Same network The XP Pro computer has a folder I want to share and access on the Home computer.
I go to the XP pro machine and in the local security policy I am trying to add HOMEPC to "access this computer from the network". Everytime I do, I get a pop up box that says: "Enter the name and password of an account with permissions for HOMEPC"
SO I enter the admin account and password on HOMEPC and it says "access is denied". I am unable to add HOMEPC to the "access this computer from the network" policy that is on the PROPC.
On HOMEPC, I get this in the event log:
Logon Failure: Reason: Unknown user name or bad password User Name: arthur2 Domain: homepc Logon Type: 3 Logon Process: NtLmSsp Authentication Package: MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_V1_0 Workstation Name: propc
I have a password set on the homepc account. The username and password are 100% accurate that I am entering. I have tried entering it as homepc\arthur2 as well
every attempt results in a logon failure. All i want is to share a folder from PROPC to access while I am on HOMEPC.

Do you have a user that is identical on both mahines? the username and password must be exactly the some in the local users group on both machines and the password can't be blank. Putting them in the local administrators group might help, too.
