Question : Windows XP Professional Slow browsing network

I have a Windows XP Pro workstation with and Intel 10/100 NIC on a 2003 network.  I constantly lose a shared printer (that is attached to w Win98 machine) while nobody else loses it. When I try ot browse for it it doens't show. Also I hav some small 3-4 MB) access DB's on the 2003 server and it can take up to 2 minutes to open them the first time each day.  Any clue? I have changed the auto-disconnect settings but to no avail.
