Question : How to enable peer to peer file sharing without allowing access through guest account?

We have 4 XP Pro computers networked at home, all have file sharing enabled.  For example, one computer we all access is named "Jukebox", we use it for remote backups and music storage. The "Jukebox" username is "MusicLover", and does not reguire a password.  In order for other users to share "Jukebox" files, we share those files, and have added matching users & passwords to "Jukebox" that corrospond to our personal PCs.  All works fine.

Yesterday our son comes over with his "MAC laptop" and shows me how he can "see" our network, including "Jukebox", and read files from it--without knowing our usernames or passwords.

We see that "Mac Laptop" automatically logs on to "Jukebox" GUEST account through our WAN.  So I disable guest account in "Jukebox" through computer management, & reboot.

Now "Mac Laptop" can not log on without password.

New problem, Our computers can not log on to "Jukebox" either.  I tried enabling guest account on "Jukebox" and adding password to that account. Now when I try to attach to it in Search For Computer, the username is grayed out (and set to default Musiclover). I have tried using the Guest password and the other matching accounts password, nothing works.  The default user Musiclover, does not have a password, and I understand that is not allowed in peer-to-peer networking.

I want to know why I can't logon to one of the other password protected accounts (why are they not available), and if there is a easier way to protect our shared files from Guest account access while easily making them accessable to us through our peer-to-peer network?

Thanks!

Do you have "simple file sharing" active? If it is, deactivate it.
1) Open Windows Explorer
2) Go to Tools > Folder Options... > View (tab)

simple file sharing
