Question : How do I specify the preferred network adapter?
|
|
I have a laptop running Vista. It has an ethernet NIC and a wireless adapter. Both are connected to the same network and I'm not having any problems.
How does Windows determine which NIC to use? I don't want the slower wireless connection to be used when the wired connection is available. Is there any way to view which card is being used by a given application?
Thanks.

MS is funny with network adapters. If they use the same settings you will not notice (unless you have a speed issue) which is being used. Basically, whichever is considered the be "lan connection 1" gets priority. Easiest thing in your situation is to simply disable the wireless card when not in use. That way there is no "confusion" and you're gauranteed your best connection.
