Question : Setting up a network with a router and a switch.

|
We have a t1 connection coming into a Cisco 1600 series router. This router is set up through our ISP and even if i could i wouldnt know how to configure the Cisco 1600. Currently there is a linksys router is running NAT so that i will provide Internet connection for all of the people on the network. What i want to do is set up a server to allow people to connect through a VPN tunnel to our network. Would it be bad to use a switch after this cisco router and then set up that computer with its own static IP. Then the linksys router would have another IP of its own. The computer would have 2 network cards one for internet, and the other for the network. I tried doing forwarding from the linksys router for the VPN, but had a lot of troubles with it working. Im not sure if its because the Cisco router isnt doing the forwarding or not.
Before: Cisco 1600(gateway) --> Linksys(NAT) ---> Network
After: Cisco 1600(gateway)--->Switch ----->computer(VPN)--->Network ---- >Linksys(NAT) ---> Network
There has to be some other ways out there. Im pretty new at all of this and this. This is the easiest way in my head i know it would work without too much advanced knowledge in the Networking area. Is it really that terrible for it to be set up like this? I know its prolly been explained a thousand times here but can someone help me get my thoughts in the right direction. THANKS SOO MUCH for everyone who has a second to respond. Please let me know if there is something i left out or need to explain better.

Sorry, left out your Cisco 1600 ...
Internet | Cisco 1600 | | Layer 2 Switch ------------------------- VPN Device (Server or Concentrator) | | | | Firewall/NAT (Linksys Router) | | | | | Layer 3 switch-----------------------------------|
