Question : Proxy Server Setup on XP Laptop
|
|
I need to share an internet connection with 6 laptops. I do not have the option to use a linksys router or anything of that type. So my thought is to use a proxy server. I have another laptop that I can use for this purpose. It is running XP Pro SP2. Does anyone know of good, stable & reliable proxy software that I can use? Preferably free? Also, if anyone has any other ideas please let me know.
Thanks

Xp has Internet connection sharing (ICS) built into it that will do this for you. the only thing is you will need multiple nic cards to connect the computers to the ICS server. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/crawford_02july01.mspx
The thing is you are going to need 7 nics in your computer to connect all the computers up to it for ICS. If you dont have a hub/switch you are going to need a physical nic for every computer + 1 for the internet.
