Question : Local area connection is missing

Hello
After some regular actions i perform on my computer every once in a while such as cleanup, difragmentation etc... i restarted my computer and my "local area connection" is gone. i scaned for virus with norton antivirus and it came up with nothing, scaned for adware with "adaware se" and also came up nothing, it worked fine before the restart i really dont think i did anything unusual that i hadnt done before...
im using win xp home edition 2002, sp 2
All i have now in the "network connection" directory is "1394 connection" which i realy got no idea what it is...
I tried windows restore to a day earlyer but the problem didnt go away...

So, how do I restore the "local area connection" ?

Thank you.

Answer : Local area connection is missing

check device manager to see if the network adapter is still installed - and check the drivers for it.

under network connections, make a new connection and follow the wizard.

the 1394 connection if for setting up a connection witr a firewire cable instead of ethernet.
