Question : Lose drive mapping
|
|
W2003 SBS, DC, File server, domain... 2 XP Pro workstations joined to domain... Drives are hard mapped...no login script...
This is a learning system I have at home...
Over the past few weeks, I've been losing my drive mappings...I cannot connect to the server...I can ping...I can take the workstations off the domain and rejoin them, get my drives back but in a few hours I will not be able to access any of the mapped drives again...
Started about a month ago, gradually got worse and now if I reboot my workstations I MIGHT be able to connect...If I rejoin a workstation to the domain I will be able to access drives...but I will lose them in a few hours...
Workstations login to the domain no problem...I can change pw's in the DC and that works fine...
I just cannot keep my drive mappings for very long...
Not real sure how to trouble shoot this...
Ideas...thoughts???
Thanx Steve

Answer : Lose drive mapping

This could be a DNS issue.
Are the client computers DHCP or fixed IP? How are the DNS settings configured? Is the drive mapping done to \\servername\sharename or \\ipaddress\sharename?
Suggestions for the Domain configuration
Win 2003 SBS server Run DHCP server Run DNS server Run WINS server Pass DNS and WINS and Gateway (router) info in the DHCP Scope Options Make sure the internal DNS is listed first and verify this on the clients with ipconfig/all
Clients Set as DHCP
Please comment on the current server setup in relation to the above configuration suggestions.
