Question : Bandwidth/Throughput 10/100/1000mbps

What's the actual speed of 10mbps 100mbps and 1000mbps connections?  I was heard it was about 30% (example 30% of 10mbps) but I want a second opinion.

Answer : Bandwidth/Throughput 10/100/1000mbps

It completely depends on your network.  If you have any hubs, then your numbers will be lower.  If you have hubs and a mix of 10mbit devices, your speeds will be a lot lower.  Generally 100mbits/s = 12.5mbytes/s..  you usually see about half of that when it's busy, up to 9 or 10megabytes/second if you have good equipment.  I get an average of 7-8Megabits/s, topping off at about 8.5.

Besides the network, the IDE and PCI busses can get congested, or you can reach the limitations of your harddrives.  This is especially the case with gigabit..  at speeds of 125megabytes/second, you are likely to reach the harddrive's read speed limitations before you reach the medium's limitations.

My guestimates on the speeds:
10mbps = 0.8 megabytes/s
100mbps = 8 megabytes/s
1000 mbps = 45 megabytes/s (depends on your harddrives)
