Question : DLINK DI-524 CANNOT CONFIGURE PROPERLY!!!

Hi there,
I have purchased a dlink di-524 today and have followed the instructions to the letter. However, whilst running the quick install i get the following error.

"Please check the ethernet cable from your PC and make sure the router is powered on"

My router is on and the ethernet cable is plugged in securely. I am also not getting any of the port lights (1 - 4)
lighting up on my router. I have looked in network connections and it says "network cable unplugged" I initially thought it might have been the ethernet cable but i tested it with another and still the same problem.

Just for info I am running xp service pack 2 and connect to the internet via a surfboard modem (cable connection).

Thanks in advance

Answer : DLINK DI-524 CANNOT CONFIGURE PROPERLY!!!

Is the led burning on your ethernet adapter?

Check your speed and duplex settings on your LAN card.
Go to network connections -> your lan connection -> right click properties.
Click configure -> advanced -> check speed / duplex settings.
See if its set to Autonegotiating. If its already set to Auto.
Try first 10mb / halfduplex and work your way up to 100mb / full.

If this does not work I'm afraid you have a DOA. and you must inform your supplier and ask for another.
