Question : Dial-Up won't fully work ("NDISWAN could not be opened")

Hi everyone:

I normally use a Cable modem for Internet access, but keep a dial-up account for emergency use.

Lately my attempts at connecting by dial-up get as far as verifying username and password, then a form appears with the following text:

     All devices connected.
Error 50: The network request is not supported.

Looking at my Windows 2000 Event Log shows an event:

Remote Access Connection Manager failed to start because NDISWAN could not be opened. Restart the computer. The system cannot find the file specified.

I have no problems with Internet access via the Cable Modem.

I have looked at Newsgroup articles that mention the above message and have tried the following:

1.     sfc /scannow
2.     deleting \winnt\system32\dllcache\ndiswan.sys  IMMEDIATELY followed by:
3.      uninstalling and re-installing TCP/IP
4.      creating a new connection item

ndiswan.sys is happily sitting in folder \winnt\system32\drivers
It is version 5.0.2195.2779  (I have Win2K Pro SP2).
I did a "comp" with the same file in folder \winnt\ServicePackFiles\i386 and it compared OK, so I don't think it has been corrupted.

But I'm still stuck!

Regards

Leigh
