Question : Slow wireless network browsing in XP workgroup
|
|
Ok, simple network, 2 XP pro machines, D-link wireless router, 1 dlink 54 meg wireless card on a laptop, 1 UTP desktop. both access DSL line no problem to the internet. Both in same workgroup I can browse and use the shares no but the response is very slow. I've tried the following
1)Disabled searching for scheduled tasks with the namespace key in the registry
2)Folder options unchecked autmatically search for shares and printers
3)tried both enabling and disabling Netbios over TCP
4)changed the hard wired pc to half duplex operation on the network card
5)turned off any virus checker, pc security software
6) turned off windows firewall
7)there are no other user accounts in the workgroup...all shares are set to open access for any user
hmmm any ideas appreciated

Answer : Slow wireless network browsing in XP workgroup

Have you thoroughly locked down the wireless so that you are sure that it's only you on the network? Have you run spybot and adaware and the like? What kind of connection are you getting with the wireless? This should be in your system tray or network properties.
Set up a benchmark. Single large file. Map to a share. Do copy. Record time & calculate rate. Do it both ways and make sure to clear cache between tests.
