Question : Add D-Link DIR-300 Wireless Router to an existing HP Server running SBS 2003

I have an already working HP Server with a DLINK Modem Router and Dlink Gigabit Switch. All I wish to do is add wireless functionality to the network so that laptops can join the domain. I haven't yet tried doing it as I wish to have as little down time to the network as possible. Someone must have successfully implemented this before so I thought I'd start here first.
Equipment:
HP Proliant Server
Dlink Modem Router
Gigabit Switch

Wanting to add . D-Link DIR-300  Wireless router to the network.

Ip address of the server is 10.1.1.10

Answer : Add D-Link DIR-300 Wireless Router to an existing HP Server running SBS 2003

You don't need a Wireless Router. What you need is an Access point and the way you locate your access point is very important. Check the following diagram and make sure you sit your Access Point properly

Internet --> ISP (or T1) modem--> VPN or Firewall router--> LAN switch (or switches)--> Access Point

That said, your Access Point needs to be in the LAN network. If you have the Wireless router, you have to locate it at the VPN or Firewall layer and you have to dial in VPN every time access to the LAN. Therefore, Access Point is what you need.
