Question : Track user logon/log off times
|
|
I manage a small network of WinNT and W2KPro users. It is a W2k domain. I need a way for an owner (non-tech, so anything other then opening a text file will be to complicated for this person) to view a users logon/log off times in a text file. I can take a time and date stamp of a users logon with a logon script but cant find a way to do this when they log off. Is there a way to run a .BAT file when someone logs off with out messing with policy editor? If I can find a way to run a .BAT file (or execute any file for that matter) when someone logs off, then I can write a time stamp to a text file for review. OR A way to get a time stamp when a user logs off?
Thanks, pcwimp

You should use group policy but instead of creating a logon/logoff script and pushing it to your clients, just enable the logon/logoff events you want to see. After you enable these settings, you'll be able to see them in the server's event viewer.

Even the owner should be able to use the event viewer with a minimal amount of training. This will work for any client that you are using W2K, NT, W98, W95 etc.
