heard a rumor that there is a way of finding the network speed of a workstation. is there & how?

On SUN U2 Solaris8 having network interface hme
I can check it (beeing ROOT)
ndd /dev/hme link_speed
it displays 1 and means 100Mb/s
ndd /dev/hme \? conjures up all parameters
It may not work with other interfaces.
