Question : Local print spooler hangs on multiple computers on a Microsoft Network
I have a puzzling issue with several users on our network. We commonly have an issue where a computer will lockup applications and is fixed by stopping and restarting the local print spooler. This primarily happens when a program is going to print to one of the network printers. This does not happen to every user on our network and it happens to some more than others. This seems to have happened around the same time we upgraded to AutoCad 2007, however the issue has happened to people that do not have CAD and it has happened to people that are not running CAD at the time.

Meanwhile I have been able to solve this problem. In my network this was caused by new drivers from HP for their printers behaving erratic. I solved it by using older drivers and for the latest printers even using drivers from older compatible models (e.g. use 4200 drivers for 4350's), as no older drivers where available. It seems to me like all the fancy stuff (popups with printer status, toner levels, etc...) they recently added is causing this. I'm not 100% sure about this, but in the past I hated Epson for this and now HP is doing the same. I liked the clean HP drivers. Also, the new universal driver did not resolve this. So: start hunting for older drivers and give it a try.
