Question : Extend wireless coverage

Hello,

I have a 2Wire 2701HGV-E router with both wired and wireless connections to a few devices. I have a 2-storey home and the WiFi signal is too weak upstairs. I just installed a WiFi camera in one of the rooms and unfortunately is out of range.
I was thinking of using the powerline technology (homeplug AV) to bring connectivity upstairs, by using one of those adapters which incorporate a wireless AP. But this way I'd have 2 separate WiFi networks and I'm wondering if there is a way to make them work together. Ideally I'd be able to use a wifi skype phone seamlessly between the 2 floors.
I discarded the wireless range extender beacuse I can't find a suitable location for it (my wife hates cables and electronic devices in general).

Can you please tell me what is the best way to bring WiFi connectivity upstairs?

Thanks!
J

Answer : Extend wireless coverage

Using the powerline adapters may be a good solution given your restrictions on running cable or using a range extender. You could connect an AP upstairs and have it appear to be the same network. Just give it the same SSID and password, and you should be able to seemlessly go between them when going upstairs. The only problem is you will lose connetivity for a second or two when you get out of range of one and switch to the other. I am uncertain how this will impact your skype calls (you may drop the call). Also, be sure to put the new AP on a different channel to reduce interference with the one downstairs.
