Question : Reverse DNS question
my domain
www.mydomain.com
is having problems sending mail...on a few emails, I am getting boucnebacks reporting that my MTA reputation is too low. I did a DNS check at DNSstuff.com and got this:
Reverse DNS authenticity: [Could be forged: hostname xxxx.xxx.myhostIP.com. does not exist]
So I have bad reverse DNS
My email server is directly on my website (I am using a dedicated server)...so
www.mydomain.com
is my website, and my email server.
My ISP is willing to configure my reverse DNS to be whatever I want. I thought maybe I should have my reverse DNS point back to mydomain.com but then I did some reverse DNS lookup's on about a dozen other domains, and none of them point back to themselves.
For example, this is all too common:
www.mydomain.com
---> 33.999.23.243
33.999.23.243 ---> blah.computer.HostISP.com
Is it bad policy for me to setup reverse DNS like this:
www.mydomain.com
---> 33.999.23.243
33.999.23.243 --->
www.mydomain.com
How should I have my reverse DNS setup?
Answer : Reverse DNS question
you would want your reverse dns to point to whatever your email server dns name is.
email.mydomain.com ---> 33.999.23.243
33.999.23.243 --->email.mydomain.com
